As well as the “usual”, here are some of the more festive things we have been up to during the countdown to Christmas:
Making and painting Christmas tree decorations using saltdough…
Making more decorations, this time using pine cones, white paint and glitter…
Some impromptu stacking of the glitter shakers by N (17m)…
Making playdough Christmas trees and decorating them with beads (the green dough was unscented but we also played with yellow “marzipan” dough and red “cinnamon” dough – this is really easy to make: just add almond essence or mixed spice to the basic playdough recipe, together with some food colouring)
Exploring feathers to make a festive robin
Making table decorations using oasis, candles and winter foliage (snipping away at the foliage made the kitchen smell of Christmas trees – lovely!)
Small world play with the Christmas set (Santa, Rudolf, snowman, etc.) and also the Nativity set
Reading lots of Christmassy books from the library and from home as well as enjoying listening to, singing and dancing to Christmas music
Having fun at our toddler group Christmas parties
Decorating the Christmas cake and making gifts of chocolate truffles
Making mince pies and apple pies
I am currently enjoying a hard-earned 2 week break with my own family (if Christmas with 5 children aged 1, 3, 5, 7 and 39 can ever be described as a break…) but my mind is already brimming with ideas for more fun in January.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Everyone!!!
